About the Artist:
Jia Man is a U.S.-based artist and college professor who previously lived and worked in Tokyo. Drawing on the spatial philosophy of ikebana and Japanese Zen aesthetics, her practice explores impermanence, restraint, and the expressive potential of emptiness. Working with flowers, branches, petals, roots, and stone, Jia Man constructs ephemeral arrangements that exist only briefly. Photography is integral to this process, preserving transient forms before they disappear. Through material and digital interventions, subtle tonal shifts, texture, and carefully structured light, her images move beyond documentation toward a painterly and contemplative form. Influenced by ma (interval), wabi-sabi, and mono no aware, her work examines asymmetry, negative space, and the tension between presence and absence. Light functions as both subject and architecture, reshaping space and altering perception. Rather than presenting fixed narratives, her images invite contemplation of stillness, fragility, memory, and the passage of time.
Jia Man's work has been exhibited internationally throughout Europe, the United States, Canada, and Japan, including presentations in Paris, London, Brussels, New York, Milan, Amsterdam, Athens, Venice, Tokyo, Barcelona, Madrid, and Lisbon. Her work has also appeared in large-scale public digital displays in Times Square, Athens, and London, and has been featured in international art and fashion publications.
